Each Character you upgrade will boost one of the following states:

• The payout multiplier for Hangouts they're associated with, increasing your Cool Points income
• The speed at which your Hangouts produce Cool Points
• The showdown power for Boss Fights, which increases your score per dodge and lets you earn more rewards

Additionally, Hangout automation requires Characters to be at a minimum level.
